Sad news from Smithfield to start 2022. Two of our members have passed away recently.

Mr Peter Benson
was a member of the club from 2006–2018 and then moved to Queensland.
He mainly collected used stamps for the children whilst in Sydney and Mr Colin Ryan and Alfred Grech were able to help supply these. He was rather a timid person and kept to himself while at the Club in Sydney.
The Club wishes to send its condolences to his wife and family for the passing away
of Peter, father and husband.

Mr Ben Peresen
had been a Member from 2003 to 2022. He was mainly interested in displaying to the club. While he was a member here, he built up his Italy Post collection to show and was rebuilding it again. From his wife’s Internet information it seems that he was improving the collection as time progressed.
The Club wishes to send its condolences to his wife, Paola and his daughter Lisa for the passing away of Ben, father and husband, and to other family members.

Mr Christiaan Van der Kley came over to Wakeley to display his
QE II 1c-7c Australian Stamps ,Flaws and Plates.
The certificate was accepted by Chris and presented by Mr Andrew Foldes on the night at the Brian Wunsch Centre, Wakeley.
About Us
Founded in 1976, our members are drawn from all over the Cumberland District (Smithfield, Fairfield, Cabramatta and Liverpool). We are a member of the Philatelic Association of NSW Inc. (Philas).
We meet at the Brenan Park Community Hall at Smithfield on the 2nd Monday of each month. We have around 40 members with a regular attendance of 15 – 20 per month. Our monthly sale by tender is very popular with buyers and sellers, as we do not charge commissions.
“Members Choice” competitions (6+ pages) are held three times per year.
Our December competition, “The Alex Marks Memorial Shield” is dedicated to one of our founders, Mr Alex Marks.
Our monthly meetings include a raffle for a stamp album, stock book or philatelic accessories.
The attendance raffle is for an Australia Post Year Book awarded at the December meeting.
Sponsorship to financial members (after a qualifying period) is offered for entry for state or national exhibitions to the Bronze level.
The Philas Crown Agents collection is accessible through Philas.
